Our Story

While Josh and Susan had known each other through work for a few years, it was on January 3rd, 2022 when Josh first emailed Susan to grab coffee.  They met up first thing on the morning of the 5th at Grant (food court area at West Point).  Coffee lasted only 10 minutes as when they sat down, Josh admitted that the reason for coffee was that he wanted to ask her to dinner sometime to get to know each other.  Susan immediately accepted!

Since then, they've been going to sporting events, traveling, eating delicious food, and most of all laughing together.  Susan has loved getting to know Josh's four girls - Genny, Leah, Abbey, and Madeline.  They are amazing!

Nine months and 1 day after their first date, Josh asked Susan to marry him.  She said yes - enthusiastically!

Where to Stay in Beacon

Four main options when staying in Beacon:

1) The Roundhouse (where the wedding is) - we have a small block of rooms that are available for Saturday and Sunday (required two nights).  These are $315 for Saturday and $229 for Sunday night for some; 335 and 249 for a few; and 380/269 for some with the best views.  Call the front desk (845.765.8369, x 0) to place a name / credit card in the Richardson-Carter block.  Need to book prior to March 19, 2023.

1b) The Roundhouse may have some rooms available for just Sunday night off the block (or for both Saturday and Sunday). Price is what is on their website.  https://roundhousebeacon.com/hotel/

2a) Dutchess Inn and Spa. This is about a mile down on idyllic Main Street from the Roundhouse.  Easily walkable.  We have rooms blocked off Friday to Monday.  They also require a two night minimum.  If you want one of these for two (or three) nights email me and we'll put your name down (they are all under my name right now).  They are $375 for Friday and Saturday and $299 for Sunday night.

2b) Dutchess Inn and Spa.  They are opening up 15 more rooms in late December or early January.  I don't know what the rates will be, but this could be a great option.  https://thedutchessinn.com

3a) Airbnb: We have reserved a few 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 person Airbnb's in Beacon.  If you are interested in one of these, let us know and we can tell you what we have and the prices!

3b) Airbnb (book yourself) there are some 2 person rooms but also some houses if y'all want to share on airbnb!  Search Beacon, NY on Airbnb.  I'd steer clear of places in Newburgh (unless you ask us location first), but Garrison and Cold Spring are also close by with good options.

4)  Other in Beacon:  There are some bed and breakfasts in Beacon that could be good options and are less expensive than the other two hotels.

Swan Inn: https://www.swanninnofbeacon.com

Beacon B&B: https://www.beaconbnb.com

Chrystie House: https://chrystiehouse.com

Outside of Beacon.  There are a bunch of chain hotels in Fishkill and near Stewart airport in Newburgh.  We weren't able to get a room block because of graduations, but there may be individual rooms available.

Fishkill: Residence Inn, Springhill Suites by MarriottHilton Garden Inn; Hampton Inn; Courtyard by Marriott, and a bunch more...

Newburgh-Stewart Airport: Hampton Inn and Suites; Homewood Suites by Hilton; and Courtyard by Marriott

How to Get to Beacon

If Renting a Car

LGA: 1.5 hrs
Newark: 1.5 hrs.

Stewart: 15-20 min.

Westchester: 1 hr.

JFK: 1.75-2 hrs.

The two closest NYC airports are about 1.5 hours from Beacon: LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark (EWR).  JFK is closer to 2 hours away.

New York Stewart International Airport (SWF in Newburgh) is about 20 minutes from Beacon.

Westchester County Airport (HPN) is 1 hour from Beacon.

Both of these airports have fewer direct flights.

If Taking Public Transportation

LGA: bus/train

LaGuardia is your best bet.  You can take a bus or an Uber to the Harlem train station and take a MetroNorth Train to Beacon.  I'd recommend an Uber from the Beacon train station to where you are staying, otherwise it's a pretty steep hill with luggage to get to town.

If coming from NYC: Take the MetroNorth Train to Beacon.

What to do in Beacon?

In 2018, Beacon was named "The Coolest Small Town in America" by Budget Travel!  Beacon continues to grow and offers great food, a cool art gallery, and a breath-taking (in more ways than one) hike.
